Manchester: Unplugged. Creator & Producer
Manchester: Unplugged is a cinematic music documentary series exploring stories behind songs born in Manchester.
Each film deep dives into the creative process behind one song.
Laura developed the format, researched every artist and song, wrote and conducted every interview and produced each film from first conversation through to release. She selected the artists, secured locations, and managed the publicly funded production budget.
The series spans genres and generations of artists, with episodes featuring breakthrough bands: The Guest List & The Covasettes, house music pioneers K-Klass, freestyle rapper FREEQUENCY3, and solo artist Salo.
Since launching, Manchester: Unplugged has reached over 120,000 views on Youtube, with strong support and engagement from artists and audiences. The series received glowing press coverage, including a standout review from Honorary Manc who said it was: “a love letter to a city whose music continues to shape culture far beyond its streets.”
Northern Music Awards Concept Producer
Laura joined Nordoff & Robbins when the Northern Music Awards were still an idea and helped turn the concept into a credible new industry event. She managed and shaped the format and some of the award categories, secured sponsorship and industry partnerships, built valuable industry relationships for the charity, arranged the judging panel, and helped to book artists and presenters.
The awards honoured Northern artists, with winners including Louis Tomlinson (Artist of the Year), Courteeners (Band of the Year), and The K's (Breakthrough Act of the Year). It highlighted local icons like Lisa Stansfield and Tim Burgess. The event also recognised local venues and made a significant impact by raising the profile of the charity in the region.
StreamGM | Producer & Comms
StreamGM was GMCA’s music and culture streaming platform, showcasing the region’s music and nightlife through live and pre-recorded broadcasts, documentary shows, club nights and music sessions.
Laura worked with GMCA Culture on StreamGM for five years, leading its day-to-day communications and building relationships with artists, venues, cultural organisations and partners. She wrote press releases and website content, created campaign assets and managed communications around the platform’s programme, alongside producing live and pre-recorded broadcasts and developing collaborations with project partners.
Notable productions included the Haçienda 40th anniversary broadcast, streamed live to thousands alongside club nights including Suffragette City at YES, She’s In Control at Freight Island and Sprechen Records’ 10th Birthday in Stockport.
These productions gave established and emerging artists a global digital platform, while capturing and celebrating Manchester’s club culture, grassroots music and wider cultural scene.
An Evening of Music & Conversation with Peter Hook & The Light Producer
Laura produced a special one-night fundraising event with Peter Hook & The Light at Manchester’s legendary Star & Garter. The exclusive event brought together Joy Division fans for an intimate evening of conversation and live performance.
The event was designed to shine a light on mental health challenges within the music industry while raising funds for the charity Shout UK, the UK’s free 24/7 mental health text support service.
The evening featured a candid Q&A with Peter Hook reflecting on his extraordinary musical journey, followed by a rare live performance with his band The Light in one of Manchester’s most beloved grassroots venues.
Tickets were allocated via a charity ballot, with overwhelming demand from fans across the UK. The event raised £18,000 for Shout UK, demonstrating the power of music to bring communities together and support meaningful change.
